A private client in Holland Park asked us to clean a chandelier that had taken on a film of atmospheric dust. The work was carried out in place, without removing the fitting from its ceiling point.
The Piece
A traditional crystal chandelier of tiered form, with cut drops suspended from a metal frame and arms terminating in candle cups.
Work Carried Out
- Full protection of floors, furniture and adjacent finishes
- Hand cleaning of every crystal and drop in place
- Polishing of the frame, arms and candle cups
- Reattachment of any drops that had worked loose
- Final electrical check and lamping
Approach
Work was carried out from a safe working platform. Each drop was addressed individually and returned to its original sequence.
Outcome
The chandelier was returned to a clear and even refraction, with the metalwork brought back to a uniform finish and the fitting left ready for use. Further cleaning work in the same neighbourhood is documented in the Swedish tent and bag chandelier in Holland Park, together with in-situ projects in Mayfair and Chiswick.
