A long-standing client in Holland Park asked us to clean a substantial Swedish chandelier at their home. The item had not been touched since its installation some years earlier.
The Piece
A large tent and bag chandelier of Swedish manufacture, formed of lozenge-shaped cut crystal drops wired onto a brass frame. The construction is intricate, with each drop individually attached, making removal both impractical and unnecessary.
Work Carried Out
- Use of a ladder to gain safe access to the chandelier
- Hand cleaning of every drop and chain in position
- Treatment of brass frame and central column
- Reseating of any drops that had shifted
- Inspection of suspension and electrical fittings
Approach
Given the construction of the item, all work was carried out in place from a ladder by a single member of our team over the course of the visit.
Outcome
The chandelier was returned to a uniform clarity throughout, with the lozenge drops once again catching the light. The original wiring of the item was left entirely intact. We have carried out similar in-situ cleaning of period pieces in Mayfair and Chiswick, together with a further Holland Park chandelier cleaning elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
