8-Arm Rule Drop Chandelier, c. 1830

An early 19th-century rule-drop chandelier featuring two concentric circles of rule drops suspended from the canopy, the smaller positioned within the larger. Decorative strings of glass connecting pieces and alternating buttons descend from the canopy to the larger central ring. The chandelier features solid glass arms with cut-glass pans, adorned with beautiful Georgian rule drops. Below, four tiers of cascading rule drops create an elegant, graduated form, culminating in a magnificent cut-glass bubble finial.

Restoration by G&P Cohn
Dismantled and hand cleaned; rule drops re-pinned and re-hung on new wire, missing drops replaced from period stock where required.
Electrification —It is fully electrified, both internally and on each solid arm.
Condition
Restored and rewired. Rule drops re-strung throughout; frame sound.
Our Opinion
A carefully arranged rule drop of the earlier 19th century, with the concentric circles to the lower section reading particularly well when lit. The frame is of restrained proportion, and the piece would suit a room of moderate rather than grand scale.
