    8-Arm Early-Victorian Crystal Chandelier, CA 1840

    An early-Victorian tent and tier chandelier of English manufacture, with eight metal arms carrying cut nozzles and pans. The tent section is dressed with rectangular connection plates and octagonal buttons; the lower tier with triangular drops and pears. Antique glass throughout, retaining its original form.

    Catalogue Notes

    • Eight metal arms with cut nozzles and pans
    • Tent and tier construction dressed with antique octagonal buttons
    • Top canopy set with swags of round and rectangular buttons
    • Large cut-glass bubble at the lower terminal
    • Frame re-pinned, rewired and hand cleaned in the workshop

    Restoration by G&P Cohn

    Dismantled, hand cleaned and re-pinned in our workshop. Broken pins renewed and strings of buttons and drops re-hung; frame reassembled and checked for stability.

    Electrification —Rewired and PAT tested to current UK standards.

    Condition

    Fully restored. Antique glass retained throughout with original form intact; frame sound and in good order following workshop attention.

    Our Opinion

    A well-proportioned English tent and tier of the period, notable for the survival of its antique glass in original form. The dressing is considered rather than showy, and the metalwork carries its age quietly. A piece suited to a room where the ceiling height allows the two tiers to read clearly.
