Chandelier Repair & Rehanging in Welwyn Garden City

We were recently contacted by a client in Welwyn Garden City after her chandelier, which had been hanging above the dining table, unexpectedly fell from the ceiling. Fortunately, the chandelier was repairable, but the fall had bent two of the arms out of position and broken some of the hanging glass. The chandelier also needed a general tidy-up before it could be safely rehung.

We visited the property to inspect the chandelier and collect it after it had been moved into the garage. It was then carefully transported back to our workshop so that the repairs could be carried out properly.

On inspection, two of the chandelier arms had been bent out of position during the fall. These needed to be carefully returned to their correct positions. Broken hanging glass was also identified and suitable replacement pieces were fitted. The chandelier was then tidied up and tested in the workshop before being returned to the property.

The cause of the fall was traced to the ceiling fixing. The chandelier had been suspended from a hook made from Mazak, a zinc-based alloy. Over time, the hook had failed and snapped.

Because the strength of the suspension point is critical when hanging a chandelier, the failed fixing was not reused.

Once the workshop repairs and testing had been completed, we returned to the property in Welwyn Garden City to reinstall the chandelier. The old failed ceiling fixing was replaced with an appropriate steel fixing hook. The repaired chandelier was then carefully rehung above the dining table.

Once back in position, the chandelier was tested again to make sure everything was working correctly. The finished result was a repaired chandelier, complete with replacement hanging glass, safely rehung using a more appropriate ceiling fixing.

This job demonstrates how chandelier repair can involve more than the decorative fitting itself. When a chandelier is being rehung, the suitability and condition of its supporting fixing are also important considerations.
