Two Maria Theresa Chandeliers Requiring Attention
We were asked to attend a large private residence in Ascot, Berkshire, where two Maria Theresa-style crystal chandeliers required cleaning, repairs and re-electrification.
The customer had been experiencing problems with bulbs frequently blowing, and the chandeliers also needed attention to their glasswork and overall condition.
We carefully took down both chandeliers and transported them to our workshop, where the necessary work could be undertaken in a controlled environment.
Cleaning and Restoration in Our Workshop
Once back at our workshop, both chandeliers were carefully cleaned, allowing us to inspect the glass arms, decorative components and hanging crystal glasswork.
Several arms had become misaligned and needed to be carefully adjusted back into position.
We also tidied and rearranged the hanging glass, replaced missing crystal drops and fitted a replacement glass pan where the original had been broken.
The aim was to restore the chandeliers' appearance while retaining their existing character and original components wherever possible.
Re-electrification of Both Chandeliers
As part of the workshop work, both chandeliers were re-electrified.
The customer had experienced repeated bulb failures, so renewing the electrical installations formed an important part of the project.
The electrical work was undertaken with care to preserve the appearance of the chandeliers and their decorative glasswork.
Once the workshop work was complete, both chandeliers were prepared for transport back to the property.
Reinstallation and Ceiling Fixing Improvements
We returned to the property in Ascot to reinstall both chandeliers in their original positions.
During the installation, we identified that one of the existing ceiling fixings was not adequate for the chandelier it was supporting.
We improved the fixing arrangement before rehanging the chandelier.
Both chandeliers were then carefully installed, connected and tested.
The Finished Result
The two Maria Theresa-style chandeliers were returned to their original positions, with their glasswork cleaned and arranged, damaged and missing components addressed, and their electrical installations renewed.
This project demonstrates how chandelier cleaning, restoration, re-electrification and reinstallation can be combined to bring existing decorative lighting back into good working order.
The accompanying photographs show both chandeliers before removal and after their return from our workshop.
