    An early 19th-century rule drop chandelier. From the canopy hang two rule drop circles, the smaller set inside the larger. Rule drop drapes descend along the stem, with square-button connection pieces at each junction.

    Catalogue Notes

    • Two rule drop circles suspended from the canopy
    • Rule drop drapes down the stem with square-button connection pieces
    • Solid glass arms ending in cut-glass nozzles and pans
    • Ten four-inch rule drops per arm, connected with square buttons
    • Lower section formed of four concentric rule drop circles, terminating in a cut-glass bubble

    Dismantled and hand cleaned; rule drops re-pinned and re-hung on new wire, missing drops replaced from period stock where required.

    Electrification —Rewired to current UK standards; can be adapted for candle use on request.

    Condition

    Restored and rewired. Rule drops re-strung throughout; frame sound.

    Our Opinion

    A carefully arranged rule drop of the earlier 19th century, with the concentric circles to the lower section reading particularly well when lit. The frame is of restrained proportion, and the piece would suit a room of moderate rather than grand scale.
