    12-Arm Rule Drop Chandelier, c. 1820

    A glass rule drop chandelier of the early 19th century. From the canopy descend three cascading rule drop tiers to the circular frame. Below, four concentric circles of rule drops fall to the lower terminal, which is finished with a large cut-glass bubble.

    Catalogue Notes

    • Twelve arms comprising eight smaller and four larger, each beginning with a four-inch cut spike
    • Solid plain glass arms terminating in cut-glass pans and nozzles
    • Pans adorned with pear drops
    • Four concentric circles of cascading rule drops to the lower half
    • Large cut-glass bubble at the lower terminal

    Restoration by G&P Cohn

    Dismantled and re-pinned in our workshop; rule drops re-strung on new wire and missing drops replaced from period stock where required.

    Electrification —Rewired to current UK standards; can be adapted for candle use on request.

    Condition

    Restored and rewired. Rule drops and cut-glass elements retained throughout; frame sound.

    Our Opinion

    Rule drop chandeliers of this scale are seldom encountered. The three graduated tiers to the canopy and the four concentric circles below are consistent with fine Continental work of the early 19th century. A piece for a room where the cascading glass can be seen in full.
