    Removal, re-electrification, cleaning and reinstallation

A pair of large Italian chandeliers in a Marylebone property required full re-electrification to bring the wiring in line with current standards. Owing to their scale and the density of the dressing, the work was carried out at our workshop.

    The Piece

Two matching Italian chandeliers of substantial scale, with ornate brass arms and an extensive dressing of moulded and cut glass components.

    Work Carried Out

    • Survey, photographic record and labelling of components in situ
    • Careful dismantling and transport to the workshop
    • Full replacement of internal wiring with current-standard cable and fittings
    • Hand cleaning of every glass component
    • Reassembly to match the original arrangement
    • Return to the property and reinstallation at the original positions

    Approach

Each chandelier was photographed and labelled before dismantling so that the original arrangement of glass could be reproduced exactly on reassembly. New wiring was routed through existing channels in the frames; no original component was altered.

    Outcome

Both chandeliers were returned to the property electrically sound and cleaned throughout, and reinstalled in their original positions. Comparable re-electrification and workshop rewiring is documented in our restoration of a Turkish chandelier, the small icicle chandelier restoration and the conservation of a Flemish brass chandelier.
