A Georgian hanging lantern was brought into our Hoddesdon workshop for restoration. The internal wiring required renewal, and the door finial was missing, preventing the door from closing as originally intended.

Work Carried Out
- Full survey of the lantern and internal fitting
- Re-electrification of the internal hanging chandelier
- Fabrication of a period-appropriate replacement door finial
- Refitting of the door so that it closes correctly
- Cleaning and inspection of the glazing and frame
Approach
Work was carried out in the workshop. The replacement finial was made to match the character of the existing fittings; no original element was altered to accommodate it.
Outcome
The lantern is electrically sound and the access door closes as originally intended, with no visible distinction between the original fittings and the replacement finial.
