We recently carried out the careful on-site chandelier cleaning of two very large Venetian glass chandeliers in a private residence in Lancaster Gate, London.
The Piece
Due to their size and construction, the chandeliers needed to be cleaned largely in situ. Before work began, the area beneath each chandelier was fully protected with dust sheets and our large access ladders were carefully positioned.
Work Carried Out
- Full protection of the area beneath each chandelier with dust sheets
- Careful positioning of our large access ladders
- Removal of the upper and lower glass crooks for cleaning at floor level
- Individual and thorough hand cleaning of each removable glass piece
- Hand cleaning of the main frames and glass arms in position
- Refitting and checking of the upper and lower crooks
- Inspection of the lighting and replacement of bulbs where necessary
Approach
The removable upper and lower glass crooks were taken down first. These were brought to floor level, where each piece could be individually and thoroughly cleaned. The main frames and glass arms, which could not be removed, were then carefully cleaned by hand while remaining in position.
Outcome
Once the chandeliers had been cleaned, the upper and lower crooks were refitted and checked. We also inspected the lighting and replaced bulbs where necessary before completing the work. With chandeliers of this size and complexity, regular cleaning helps prevent a heavy accumulation of dust and dirt and makes it easier to maintain the clarity and brilliance of the glass. We have therefore arranged to return annually to clean both chandeliers.
